Mad Men Yourself

There I am, in all my purple-ness at Sterling Cooper!

Is it August 16th yet??

“ A few days later, President Obama said the police acted stupidly. Big mistake! A president should never get involved in a local, city-specific issue. President Bush never did, no matter how flooded a city got. ”
- Stephen Colbert

Oh Tobias Funke, how you slay me

Daily Intel nabbed David Cross for their 21 Questions, and of course, he is ridiculous!

The Arrested Development movie had BETTER happen. IMDB still says it's a go, with the entire cast on board (yeah, I'm looking at you, Cera), out in 2010! Hallelujah!

David Cross Happily Goads Crusty Punks Who Beg Him for Money

Name: David Marie Cross
Age: 45
Neighborhood: East Village
Occupation: Bon Vivant [Cross is performing at the 92Y Tribeca tomorrow, July 30, as part of their Comedy Below Canal series]

Who's your favorite New Yorker, living or dead, real or fictional?
Underdog.

What's the best meal you've eaten in New York?
Come on! I can't narrow it down to even best 100! Maybe Fette Sau just because I was jonesing for some good BBQ at the time.

In one sentence, what do you actually do all day in your job?

Observe and report.

Would you still live here on a $35,000 salary?

If I was in my twenties, yes. Now, probably not.

What's the last thing you saw on Broadway?
I walked out of Exit the King during intermission. I had never done that before. What a piece of shit. It was everything people think of when they say they hate plays.

Do you give money to panhandlers?

If they look incapacitated physically or truly down on their luck for reasons they couldn't control. I happily goad the crusty punks who beg me for money, gleefully telling them that I will never give them a penny. I'm not gonna subsidize their irresponsibility. Fuck that.

What's your drink?
Beer.

How often do you prepare your own meals?
Probably about 30 percent of the time. Does opening a jar of peanut butter and a bag of pretzels and a bottle of red wine count? Then, 90 percent of the time.

What's your favorite medication?
Beer.

What's hanging above your sofa?

A painting of Michael Jackson being honored in the Rose Garden with Ronald and Nancy Reagan by his side.

How much is too much to spend on a haircut?

For me? One dollar.

When's bedtime?
Somewhere in the 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. range. Unless I'm working — then it's more like 11 p.m.

Which do you prefer, the old Times Square or the new Times Square?

Well, I'm happy tourists have a safe place to go buy their NYC M&M's, but I prefer the old one. Many stories ago I used to haunt the old Times Square when I was in my teens/early twenties. That's where I lost my virginity!

What do you think of Donald Trump?

The embodiment of American ideals (for good or bad).

What do you hate most about living in New York?

The smell in Chinatown in the summer. Outside of that, everything's pretty great.

Who is your mortal enemy?

Gavin McInnes.

When's the last time you drove a car?
Last week. What kind of question is that? Who gives a shit?

How has the Wall Street crash affected you?

I had to put a hold on purchasing those 24-karat-gold insteps I wanted for my sneakers.

Times, Post, or Daily News?

None of the above. The Interwebs!! The Times is increasingly a joke, the Post has always been a joke, and the Daily News is for sports.

Where do you go to be alone?
I ride my bike and invariably find myself at the water. I'll stare at it for a while and then ride around some more. The key is to keep moving.

What makes someone a New Yorker?
When you order a "Big New Yorker" Pizza from Domino's!! That's the true mark of a REAL New Yorker!!!

I bet he promised them season tickets...

Ireland to Accept Two Guantánamo Detainees

PARIS — As the Obama administration struggles to fulfill a pledge to close the Guantánamo Bay detention center in Cuba, the Irish justice minister said Wednesday that his country would accept two prisoners for resettlement.President Obama has pledged to close the camp by next January and has urged European to help by taking detainees for resettlement. But the idea has proven unpopular with America’s European allies, including those who called for the camp to be closed. In April, President Nicolas Sarkozy said that France would accept a single prisoner. Mr. Obama said last month that Italy has agreed to take three.

The Irish minister, Dermot Ahern, said the decision followed a visit to the camp by Irish officials last week, according to a statement by the Justice Ministry, and was confirmed when Mr. Ahern met the newly arrived American ambassador, Dan Rooney, the statement said.

Ireland would not not admit the two prisoners as refugees, Mr. Ahern said, but would “adhere to the norms of official procedure in respecting the rights of the two men to their privacy,” meaning that there would be no public disclosure of personal information about them, their families or their travel to Ireland.

He said the men would be transferred “within the next couple of months” and urged people “to allow them time and space to adjust to their new circumstances when they arrive.”

While the Irish authorities did not identify the detainees, The Associated Press quoted two government officials with knowledge of the case as saying both men are Uzbek nationals.

One, Oybek Jabbarov, 31, has been the focus of several months’ campaigning by Irish human rights groups seeking to bring him to Ireland, The A.P. reported, saying that the officials who provided the information spoke on condition of anonymity because they were breaching the government’s official position.

Things To Look Forward To

-- Date night with the boy :)

-- Dinner with a friend Tuesday

-- A trip home to Pittsburgh in 2 weeks for a wedding(I am a huge fan of planning, be it trips, outfits, meals, etc.)

-- Friends visiting!! :)

-- Another trip home to Pittsburgh 3 weeks after that for yet another wedding

-- A trip back to Philly (we lived there for 2 years)! I can't wait to grab a slice of Lorenzo's pizza on South Street!

Oh the planning I'll do....

Best. Wedding. EVER.

My only complaint, why does it have to be a Chris Brown song?

And so it begins... my weight loss battle.

I have been trying to lose the same 30 lbs for as long as I could remember. Every year, every summer, every major event I resolve to "get healthy and drop the weight". Yet, I lose a couple pounds and then I find an excuse to slack off and go right back into the same pattern.

Well this time, I am holding myself accountable to you, and the world.

I'm going to start my goals realistically, in smaller increments so as not to discourage myself. My first goal is to BE HEALTHY.

This includes:
-- NO POP! Pop is my weakness, and even though I enjoy Coke Zero, it only makes me want the real stuff, too. No more, water water everywhere!
-- WORK OUT! I joined Curves 2 months ago, and while I average about 3 days a week, I am going to push this up to 5 days.
-- MORE FISH! I love fish, but for some reason have not been eating it lately, and I know it makes me feel, and look a lot better.
-- NO SHOPPING! Not until I stick to this, can I reward myself.

I will keep you posted with my meal/exercise plans. I can't wait to finally kick my own ass into shape. :)

Vegas: In Pictures

We stayed at my favorite casino, The Hard Rock! The only gripe I have is that it's off the strip which means cabbing it everywhere.
The gorgeous ceiling @ The Bellagio lobby. I need this in my bedroom!
Vegas night life!
We walked a mile in 105 degree heat for In N Out burger! It was my first time, and it was even better than I had imagined. The shake on the right is from the "Secret Menu", the Neapolitan Shake -- a perfect combo of chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. Mmmmm. (For the record, we took a cab back)

Sandy toes at The Hard Rock pool!
